Mérida International Airport (MID): ~170 km / 106 miles — about 2 hours by car

Tulum International Airport (TQO): ~100 km / 62 miles — about 1.5 hours by car

 

2. How do I get from the airport to Villas Tikuch?

You have 4 options: we can pick you up at the airport, a private taxi we can arrange for you from Valladolid through a trusted local company, a private taxi you book yourself from the airport, ADO (bus), or the Tren Maya.

A. We pick you up at the airport. Call us to let us know your arrival time.

B. Private taxi. We can help arrange one for you through a trusted taxi company in Valladolid to come pick you up. Prices run around $2,000-$2,500 MXN. You can also book one directly from the airport yourself, with prices around $3,000-$4,500 MXN.

C. ADO, (www.ADO.com.mx), a first-class, safe, and comfortable bus line connecting the main airports and cities of southeastern Mexico.

From Cancún Airport: the ADO terminal is about 19 km / 12 miles away. There's a direct ADO shuttle bus between the airport and the downtown terminal (~$140 MXN, ~45-55 min), or you can take a taxi (~$550-900 MXN, ~20 min). From there, the bus to Valladolid takes about 2-2.5 hours and costs $255-425 MXN.

From Mérida Airport: the ADO terminal is about 8 km / 5 miles away. ADO runs a direct bus for about $20-30 MXN (~20-30 min), or you can take a taxi (~$350 MXN, ~20 min). From there, the bus to Valladolid takes about 2-2.5 hours and costs $255-386 MXN.

From Tulum Airport: the ADO terminal is about 22 km / 14 miles away, in Tulum town. A taxi or transfer costs around $60-80 USD (~30-40 min). From there, the bus to Valladolid takes about 2 hours and costs $160-600 MXN.

Once you arrive at the Valladolid ADO station, a short local taxi ride (~$50-80 MXN) takes you to Villa Tikuch.

D. Tren Maya, a new train in southeastern Mexico, very spacious and comfortable.

From Cancún: the train station connects directly to the airport via a free shuttle between terminals (8-15 minutes), and from there it's about 1.5-2 hours to Valladolid, starting at $250-600 MXN.

From Mérida Airport: the train station is around 20 km / 13 miles away the airport, so you'll first need a taxi (~20-25 min, ~$250-350 MXN) to reach it, and from there it's about 1h50 to Valladolid, starting at $250-600 MXN.

From Tulum Airport : the  station is right next to the airport — there's a signed walking path about 15 minutes on foot, or you can take a shuttle bus for about $35 MXN. It's the most convenient connection of the three airports, since you barely have to leave the airport at all. Here's the important detail: the Tren Maya route doesn't go directly from Tulum to Valladolid. It first has to go up to Cancún Airport and then head toward Valladolid. This means the trip is longer than the straight-line distance suggests — probably between 2.5 and 3 hours, at a similar cost to the other routes (approximately $250-600 MXN).

3. Once I'm at Villas Tikuch, how can I get around?

We can provide contacts for trusted drivers who can serve as your ongoing transportation, just as many of our residents choose to do. It's also very common here at the villas for residents to give each other rides into Valladolid, so you'll be able to coordinate with your neighbors whenever someone's heading that way too.

That said, to reach any point of interest — whether a beach, ruins, or Mérida — you'd first need to get to Valladolid. Here are your options for doing so:

A. Shared taxi (colectivo)
You can flag down a shared taxi (a taxi carrying several passengers) headed to Valladolid. The cost is around $35 MXN.

B. Private taxi
You can also request a private taxi to come from Valladolid to pick you up, at a cost of around $120 pesos.

Once in Valladolid, you can take the ADO bus, the Tren Maya, or a private transfer to your final destination.

C. Walking or bikingThere's a walking and biking path that lets you comfortably make your way into downtown Valladolid. Walking to the downtown ADO terminal takes about 50 minutes, and by bike, about 20 minutes.

5. What are the nearest beaches and how do I get there? What is there to do there?

There are several beach destinations near Villa Tikuch, each with a very different feel:

A. Tulum & the Riviera Maya (Caribbean coast)
About 100 km / 62 miles east, roughly 2 hours by car. This is the classic turquoise-water Caribbean coastline Yucatán is famous for. In Tulum you'll find beach clubs, restaurants right on the sand, and easy access to nearby cenotes and the Tulum archaeological ruins overlooking the sea.

B. Río Lagartos (north coast)
About 105 km / 65 miles north, roughly 1.5 hours by car. A quiet fishing town within the Río Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, known for its boat tours through the mangrove estuary, where you can see flamingos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife up close. The beach itself is calm and uncrowded, with a few local seafood restaurants nearby.

C. Las Coloradas
About 124 km / 77 miles north, roughly 2 hours by car. Famous for its striking pink lagoons, caused by the high salt concentration and microorganisms in the water — a popular spot for photos. The beach here is wild and undeveloped, with very few amenities (no showers, limited food options), so it's best visited as part of a day trip rather than a full beach day.

D. El Cuyo (north coast)
About 130 km / 81 miles north, roughly 2 hours 15 minutes by car. A small, laid-back fishing village with a wide, quiet, white-sand beach and a relaxed, bohemian atmosphere — much less touristy than Tulum. It's a good option for residents who want a calm, unhurried beach day with a few local restaurants and cafés along the shore.

All four can be reached by car, taxi, or organized tour from Valladolid.

6. What supermarkets and markets are nearby?

Villas Tikuch is just 5 km / 3 miles from Valladolid, where you'll find several options for your shopping:

A. Chedraui
Located next to Plaza Bella Valladolid. A large national chain supermarket with groceries, fruits and vegetables, a butcher counter, bakery, and pharmacy. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays ("Martimiércoles"), they offer special discounts on fruits and vegetables.

B. Bodega Aurrerá
Located in the downtown/tourist area of Valladolid, on Calle 37. A Walmart discount store with groceries, basic goods, simple electronics, and household items at affordable prices.

C. Soriana Express
A smaller, convenience-format store, ideal for quick trips for basic groceries and pantry items.

D. Valladolid Municipal Market (Mercado Municipal)
The traditional market in the city center. Here you'll find fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, spices, local products, and also stalls selling traditional Yucatecan food — a great option for those looking for fresh produce and local economy, with that authentic Mexican market atmosphere.

E. Waldo's
A discount store with a variety of general products at low cost (cleaning supplies, household items, some groceries).
